The United States and Israel have equipped thousands of Kurds with weapons for the ground attack.
Kurdish militias from Iraq, who are ethnically Iranian, are preparing a ground attack against Iranian forces, armed by the United States and Israel. Thousands of troops are reportedly organizing along the border for combat within Iran.
After the U.S.-Israeli strikes killed Ayatollah Khamenei on Saturday, President Donald Trump encouraged Iranians to “take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will probably be your only chance for a generation.” President Trump reportedly spoke with the leaders of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, or KDP, and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, or PUK, the two main Kurdish parties in Iraq, on Sunday to discuss strategies of cooperation with the heads
The Iranian Kurdish dissent groups have the best-trained fighters of the Iranian opposition. The Kurdistan Freedom Party, or PAK, claimed responsibility for attacks against Iran’s Revolutionary Guard after Tehran’s violent response to widespread protests. The Kurds have battle experience from fighting the Islamic State.
